FUN STUFF TO LEARN:

What are food miles, and how can we cut down on them?

    • The distance food has traveled to get to your plate.
    • Food must travel from the farm it is grown on or the factory it is made into a supermarket or shop to be sold.
    • Strawberries grown and sold at a local farm have traveled very few food miles before they reach our plate.
    • However, oranges grown in Spain and then transported to our supermarkets by plane and truck have traveled a lot further.
    • Consider buying from a farmers market or CSA.
    • Select items that are made locally or at the very least from the same continent!

FUN STUFF TO DO:

Reduce your daily microplastic intake.

    • drink filtered tap water
    • avoid plastic water bottles
    • don’t reheat food in plastic containers in the microwave
    • store food in plastic-free containers
    • replace your plastic cutting boards with bamboo or wood
